About Dr. Sandy and DSHVC

Dr. Sandra Jongeward (JONG-eh-ward) DVM is a Board Certified Internist practicing veterinary medicine for more than 30 years. Dr. Jongeward is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and has extensive acupuncture training by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.

Upon graduating from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1972, she moved to New York City and the Animal Medical Center where she interned, did her two-year residency, and then stayed on as a staff veterinarian. In 1976 she moved to Los Angeles to join WLA Veterinary Medical Group (now VCA WLA), where she became part owner and trained interns, and blended a referral and general practice. In 1986 she joined Coast Pet Clinic as Chief of Staff, and then in 1989 moved to Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group where she was in referral and general practice.

Recognizing the many advantages of diagnosing and treating pets in their familiar and secure environment, as well as the need for a private and confidential veterinary service, Dr. Sandy created her in-home veterinary service in 1996. Dr. Sandy's Home Veterinary Care has grown into a thriving full-service veterinary practice.

Dr. Sandy is always seeking ways of improving her patients' lives. Even with decades of traditional medicine experience, she saw the viability of a different approach. In 2003 she completed intensive training in veterinary acupuncture with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Dr. Sandy then expanded her veterinary scope of practice by incorporating the best of Western and Alternative medicines. 

A primary factor of our success is that we think of our clients and patients as part of our family, and they consider us part of theirs.
